Advice For Couples On Your Wedding Day

After photographing numerous weddings, I’ve gathered a few helpful tips for couples to ensure their day runs smoothly—and benefits their photographer.

1. Hold the Kiss

When asked to share your first kiss as a married couple, hold it for at least five seconds. A quick peck can cause me to miss the shot, and the extra time gives me the opportunity to capture the moment. In the past, I would shoot in burst mode for this reason, but with the recent upgrade to my equipment, I now capture one shot at a time to improve image quality.

2. Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I am always happy to assist with small tasks to ensure your day runs smoothly. For example, at one wedding, I helped the groomsmen put on their cufflinks. Whether it's fetching a glass of water when no one else is around or helping with something else, I’m here to help so you can focus on enjoying your day.

3. Stay Hydrated

Hydration is key, especially on the wedding day. It’s easy to forget to drink water while you’re getting ready, but staying hydrated is essential, especially in warm conditions. Drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of your wedding to ensure you feel your best throughout the day.

4. Assign Roles Within Your Bridal Party

Your bridal party is there to support you—so don’t hesitate to delegate responsibilities to ensure everything runs smoothly. Assigning tasks such as keeping track of the schedule or helping with personal items will make the morning more efficient and allow you to stay focused on the bigger moments.

5. Plan Time for Yourselves

Weddings are filled with many moving parts, and it can be overwhelming to greet guests and manage every activity. Make sure to carve out some quiet time just for the two of you, whether it's before the ceremony or during the reception. These moments will allow you to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company amidst the celebration.

6. Be Present with Your Partner

Throughout the day, it can be tempting to speak with every guest, but remember to focus on your partner. Share intimate moments, hold each other's gaze during the vows, and savor the connection you are celebrating. The day will go by quickly, so take time to be present and enjoy each moment—it’s your special day.

7. Stay Organised with a Timeline

Collaborate with your wedding planner or coordinator to create a structured timeline for the day. A well-organised schedule will help everything run smoothly and reduce stress, ensuring each moment is captured without feeling rushed.

8. Remember, It’s Your Day

Lastly, remember that your wedding day is all about the two of you. While it’s natural to want to please everyone, this is your celebration. Focus on the love you share and make the day meaningful for yourselves. Everything else will fall into place.

9. The Second Song!

Arguably after the first dance, that next song is so important for you to choose. You want to keep people on their feet whilst your photographer is still there to capture this.
